What it was

Rockstar's first look at the game, announced on 1 December 2023 for a Tuesday 5 December premiere and put out a day early on 4 December after it leaked. Rockstar's own words: the game heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond, in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.

What it established

The setting and its name, the return to Vice City, Lucia as a lead, and a 2025 window for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The window moved to 26 May 2026 in May 2025 and to 19 November 2026 that November.

Two years on, what stands out is how little Trailer 1 promised and how much of it held. Leonida, Vice City, Lucia, the tone - all of it survived two delays intact. The only thing it got wrong was the year.
